5 MONTHS…

TODAY I TURNED 5 MONTHS OLD!!!

Boy it has been a ride! Mostly amazing and fun, but there have definitely been their days. And the past couple days have been some of them. Bastian has not been sleeping and napping very well and has been eating constantly. I’m guessing growth spurt or teething. Yes, maybe more teeth.
He’s also recently decided that he wants his own Simmons Beautyrest mattress. His crib mattress will simply not do. The past two days he ha been insisting on napping on our bed, which he hasn’t been doing for a while now. Hopefully it’s just a phase.
And he’s a little shark too! He’s bitten me 6 times TODAY!!! I tell him “NO” sternly and he laughs. I even tried the whole flicking his cheek thing, he looked confused and then smiled at me. Grr. I’m threatening to bite him back now! Ha!

So here’s the 5 month update…

-He’s sitting pretty good now, as you can see in the picture above.. Less “tripod” looking and actually gaining balance and holding himself up.
- He’s in the first stages of crawling. He’s been up on all fours and rocking for a few weeks now. He’s progressed to face first dives and scooting. He can actually get where he wants to go, eventually :)
- All fours is simply not enough, he has now decided to always try to achieve this position for as long as he can….

-His feet are his favorite thing to hold. Always grabbing them and attempting to chew or suck on them.
-Still has only bottom two teeth. Hopefully it will stay that way for a little bit.
-He’s VERY interested in food. Watches EVERYTHING that goes in our mouths.
-He’s reached that grabbing at everything stage. I sometimes forget, and over goes my drink.
- He is AMAZING in the car. He is usually awake for drives now, but so quiet. Oh, this is probably one of the biggest blessings.
-He’s starting to reach out for Ian and I.
- Smiles and laughs all the time, even when it’s not appropriate. (biting?)
- Loves to touch faces, even when it’s through the computer screen.
- Developed a strange laugh for a couple days. It was definitely a fake one. We think he was trying to imitate me. Do I really sound that creepy Bastian?
- Figuring out the exersaucer a friend let us borrow. He is getting less and less frustrated. :)

I think that’s about it. He’s just one of the best things God has added to my life. I cannot wait to watch him grow more and more.

I can’t wait to meet who Bastian becomes.

More strategies for biting, just in case somethings fits:

If he just clamps down, don't pull him off, pull him in toward you. It'll only take a second and he'll let go to breathe.

If you can figure out what happens before he bites and prevent it, you can stick your finger in the side of his mouth to prevent the clamp down. Then just end the nursing session and move on to something else.

Like I said on FB, making a big deal of it with him can turn it into a game which you don't want. And causing him pain (flicking) is not really a good way to teach him to be gentle with you, just like it doesn't make sense to hit kids in order to teach them not to hit.

My kids both like to chew on a damp washcloth that's been in the freezer. You can also freeze some milk and let him suck/chew on that – we call those "momsicles" LOL

The main thing is that a baby who's biting isn't nursing. They can't be nursing and use their teeth, it just doesn't work. He'll figure it out. Hugs to you!
